MOSCOW. Jan 30 (Interfax-AVN) - A private was shot dead in an army unit deployed outside St. Petersburg.
"It seems to be a question of justified use of arms by a sentry," spokesman for the Leningrad military district told Interfax.
The decision whether to open a criminal case or not will be made after establishing the details of the incident and questioning the sentry, he said.
Meanwhile, NTV channel reported that the incident occurred on Thursday. Pvt. Sergei Kurakin was shot by a sentry in his unit who took Kurakin for an outsider and opened fire for effect.
