Military prosecutor establishes circumstances of shooting in St. Petersburg army unit

ST.PETERSBURG/MOSCOW. Jan 30 (Interfax-AVN) - The military prosecutor's office of the St. Petersburg garrison has opened a criminal case of breaking the rules of handling weapons against a sentry who opened fire in an army unit in the outskirts of St. Petersburg, Interfax-Military News Agency was told at the prosecutor's office.

Meanwhile, assistant of the Chief Military Prosecutor of Russia Mikhail Yanenko confirmed that the investigation of the incident was proceeding rapidly.

He said that the circumstances of the incident that occurred at about 6:00 p.m. Moscow time (1500 GMT) on Thursday and resulted in the death of a private have been fully investigated and the offender established.

He said an inspection of the observation of military regulations was launched at the army unit.

"The criminal case will be sent to court shortly," Yanenko said.
