Russia to exhibit latest naval assets, air defense systems, helis at Indian arms shows

MOSCOW. Feb 2 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian arms and military hardware producers will exhibit their latest naval combat assets at the DEFEXPO India 2004 international arms show that is to take place in New Delhi from Wednesday to Saturday, the press service of the Rosoboronexport state-owned arms trading company reported.

"Taking into consideration the requirements of Indian Navy, the central place in the Russian section is occupied by Amur-1650 and "Amur-950 new diesel-electric submarines," Rosoboronexport's press release reads.

As compared with submarines of the previous generation, the submarines have substantially increased combat possibilities owing to the installation of new weapons including anti-ship missiles; power of power plant is increased; speed characteristics are improved and underwater stay time is increased; concealment is increased owing to reduction of submarine noisiness practically to natural sea background.

Rosoboronexport will also present at the arms show a wide spectrum of Russian amphibious ships and air cushion crafts, including the Zubr amphibious ship (project 12322) and Murena amphibious craft (project 12061).

" The Murena craft exceeds many Western analogies by its combat efficiency, seaworthy qualities, reliability and simplicity of servicing," the press release reads.

The attention of showroom visitors will undoubtedly by attracted by the Svetlyak patrol boat (project 10412). High speed and powerful armament make it an optimum option for defending littoral areas of India and other countries of the region.

Russia will also exhibit its air defense assets that attract serious interest all over the world. Among them are the Tor-M1 and Buk-M1-2 air defense missile systems and Igla and Igla-S portable air defense missile systems. Upgrade proposals for earlier exported air defense assets will be exhibited as well. Among them are proposals for the Shilka air defense self- propelled system, SU-23 air defense system, Kvadrat, Osa-AKM and Strela-10M air defense missile systems.

A considerable place in the Russian section will occupied by export-oriented versions of rotorcraft, both of Kamov and Mil families: KA-60 multipurpose helicopter, KA-50 Hokum and KA-52 two-seat combat helicopters, KA-28 Helix shipborne antisubmarine helicopter, MI-17-1V Hip assault cargo helicopter, MI-35 assault combat helicopter, MI-8AMTSh military cargo rotorcraft, and MI-26 Halo heavy cargo helicopter.
