Border guards apprehend over 120 trespassers in northwestern Russia in 2004

ST.PETERSBURG. Feb 3 (Interfax-AVN) - Border guards of the Northwestern Regional Border Guard Directorate apprehended nine state border violators and 120 trespassers of the border zone in January 2004, the press-service of the North-Western Regional Border Guard Directorate told Interfax-Military News Agency on Tuesday.

In addition, 723 people failed to have proper documents on them, with 363 of them prohibited from crossing the border. Citizens apprehended have paid a total of RUB32,000's (USD1,100) worth of fines for administrative violations, the press-service said.

According to the press-service, border guards of the North- Western Regional Border Guard Directorate have confiscated RUB206,000's (USD7,202) worth of smuggled goods this year. In January 2004 they also allowed 1.64 million people and 339,000 vehicles to cross the border on international transportation routes.
