MOSCOW. Feb 3 (Interfax-AVN) - The murder of Major General Anatoly Gamov, chief of the Pacific Regional Department of the Russian Federal Border Guard Service, has been solved.
"The people who committed this crime have been identified. The main suspect is on the international wanted list," Russian Deputy Prosecutor General Konstantin Chaika said at a news conference in the Interfax central office on Tuesday.
He said that "the time limits for the investigation into this case have been extended."
Once the main suspect has been arrested by Interpol, we are hoping to locate his accomplices in the murder, Chaika said.
He did not name the suspects or their motives, saying that this information could not be disclosed while the investigation was still in progress.
Gamov died in May 2002. Unidentified individuals set fire to his apartment using Molotov cocktails. Gamov and his wife received severe burns. Gamov later died in a Japanese hospital where he had been sent for treatment.
