Collective Security Treaty Organization ready for interaction with NATO -- leader

MOSCOW. Feb 5 (Interfax-AVN) -The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) is ready for real cooperation with NATO from the technical point of view, the organization's Secretary General Nikolai Bordyuzha said on Thursday.

"A concept of relations with NATO has been developed and tested in practice in the CSTO framework, and we have a wish to establish close contacts with the North Atlantic Alliance in order to work out joint measures for combating the threats to the world that are emerging today," Bordyuzha told reporters.

"We have to take into account that NATO is actively involved in a series of anti-terrorist and peacekeeping operations and has experience in such actions. Moreover, NATO and we have a common interest - counteraction to the threat of international terrorism," he said.

"Nevertheless, there is no real interaction between the CSTO and NATO. In order to progress from technical readiness to interaction, a decision to this effect must be made by heads of the CSTO member nations," Bordyuzha noted.

The Collective Security Treaty Organization was set up in April 2003. It brings together Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan.
