Duma prepared bill exempting children of policemen KIA from military service

MOSCOW. Feb 5 (Interfax-AVN) - The State Duma Defense Committee has backed a Duma-borne bill which, if becomes law, will exempt children of policemen KIA on special missions from military service.

"The Duma Defense Committee has backed the relevant Alexander Gurov and Anatoly Kulikov's initiative and bill," Chairman of the committee Viktor Zavarzin told Interfax-Military News Agency Thursday.

He said, "those who take equal risks must enjoy equal benefits."

Zavarzin recalled that currently children of the military KIA are exempted from military service, but on special missions like the antiterror operation in Chechnya policemen take equal risks, and "to grant such a right to the relatives of policemen KIA is first of all an ethical issue."

His first deputy Alexei Sigutkin told Interfax-Military News Agency that he knew that problem closely, for he had been responsible for operations in Chechnya as counselor to the Minister of Interior.

The bill moved by Gurov and Kulikov stipulates an amendment to the Federal Law "On Military Obligation and Military Service."
