Georgia completes developing combat engineer armament program

TBILISI. Feb 6 (Interfax-AVN) - The Georgian Combat Engineer Academy is completing the development of the combat engineer support program, with this support provided to special purpose units of the Georgian Armed Forces.

"Experts of our academy are completing the development of the combat engineer support program, aimed at providing combat engineer support to special purpose units, and as early as this year it will be submitted to the president and the National Security Council for consideration," Major General Elguja Medzmariashvili, the Academy President, told Interfax-Military News Agency.

He said that an MTLB bridge had already been developed, successfully tested, and fielded with the Army.

He noted that other systems, which were in great demand with the Georgian Special Forces, were also being developed, though he did not name them.

Medzmariashvili emphasized that Georgia trained its own highly skilled combat engineers.

"For instance, this year our academy will graduate the first class, specializing in preparing Georgia for combat operations and military technical policy," he said.

"We also have to face the task of preparing the academy, which is considered to be one of the best military colleges in Georgia, on short notice for conducting a compulsory qualification training of senior officers," the general said.
