MOSCOW. Feb 9 (Interfax-AVN) - Viktor Kholstov, director general of the Russian Ammunition Agency, and an official with the U.S. Defense Threat Reduction Agency, met on Friday to discuss Russian-U.S. cooperation in the area of chemical disarmament.
One of the main issues discussed in the negotiations was the joint construction of a chemical weapons disposal facility in Shchuchye in Russia's Kurgan region.
The American representative praised the level of trust and cooperation between the Russian Ammunition Agency and officials from the U.S. Defense Department and other U.S. agencies, the press service for the Russian Ammunition Agency told Interfax.
The U.S. has firm intentions to complete the construction of the chemical weapons disposal facility in Shchuchye in the Kurgan region and continue cooperating in the future, he said.
Kholstov said the most important objective of the Russian Ammunition Agency is to fulfil the federal program for the safe disposal of chemical weapons and Russia's obligations to the international community for the period up to 2012.
