Chechen ex-emissary's trip to Germany won't harm relations with Russia - DM

MUNICH. Feb 9 (Interfax-AVN) - Former emissary of the Chechen separatists Akhmed Zakayev's visit to Germany in the run- up to an international conference on security in Munich "will not affect development of Russian-German relations in a broad sense," said Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov.

"We perfectly understand who organized Zakayev's visit to Germany and for what purpose - to inflict political damage on Russian-German relations and harm primarily the German politicians, including the German leadership, seeking to develop relations with Russia," Ivanov told a news conference in Munich on Sunday.

"We also perfectly understand what reaction the organizers of this trip expected from us. They will not receive the reaction that they expected," he said.
