NAZRAN/KHANKALA. Feb 9 (Interfax-AVN) - A full-scale member of an illegal armed formation has been detained in Russia's internal republic of Ingushetia which borders Chechnya, the Ingush law-enforcement agencies told Interfax on Monday.
Shamil Akuyev, a resident of Chechnya's Urus-Martan, was detained in a joint operation of the Urus-Martan district criminal investigation department and the Ingush Interior Ministry's criminal investigation department. He is wanted on three articles of the Russian Criminal Code. The detainee was convoyed to the Chechen Interior Ministry's temporary detention facility.
"In addition, Interior Ministry Force servicemen destroyed a member of rebel resistance during a special operation in the Staroshchedrinsky forest in Chechnya. The man was killed for offering armed resistance. He is being identified," the provisional press center of the Russian Interior Ministry in the North Caucasus told Interfax-Military News Agency.
"An assault rifle, a grenade launcher and rounds for it, hand grenades, and a large number of cartridges were seized on the scene of the engagement," a press center official said.
Two more rebels were detained in Chechnya's Shali and Shelkovskaya districts, the official went on.
"One of them was a member of warlord Khatuyev's bandit gang and was involved in a series of grave crimes committed in Grozny and in the Urus-Martan and Achkhoi-Martan district. The other one was a supplier of a bandit gang based in the Staroshchedrinsky forest," the official said.
