Leningrad Military District servicemen receive 1,200 apartments for housing certificates in past seven years

ST.PETERSBURG. Feb 10 (Interfax-AVN) - Servicemen of the Leningrad Military District have received over 1,200 apartments under the State Housing Certificates program since 1998, Colonel Viktor Tusikov, head of the district's housing operation directorate, told Interfax-Military News Agency on Tuesday.

"In the past seven years servicemen of the Leningrad Military District have received 1,265 apartments within the framework of the special state program. A total of 186 certificates were realized in 2003 alone, while another 29 housing certificates are being processed," Tusikov said.

He emphasized that housing certificates accounted for a three-fold greater number of apartments than own construction.

Tusikov reported that a total of 175 apartments were expected to be received under the State Housing Certificates program in 2004, which among other things would allow the state- owned flats fund to be augmented. "The positive dynamics of appeals, pertaining to housing issues, is particularly encouraging in this light," he stressed.
