MOSCOW. Feb 10 (Interfax-AVN) - Deputy Chief of Staff Colonel General Yury Baluyevsky has denied media reports claiming that military actions against NATO will be rehearsed at upcoming strategic exercises.
"One has to be mad today to fight against the whole of NATO, which has armed forces four times greater than Russia," the general told a Tuesday news conference.
But he said that the Russian Armed Forces must take the U.S. stance, and its nuclear doctrine in particular, into account.
"There are many aspects in the new U.S. nuclear doctrine that we don't understand and to which we must respond," Baluyevsky said.
He said this doctrine "hints at the probability of using nuclear arms for political purposes and lowers the threshold for using nuclear weapons."
