MOSCOW. Feb 10 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian armed forces are conducting strategic command post exercises, First Deputy Chief of Staff Colonel General Yury Baluyevsky told the press on Tuesday.
"The exercises are aimed at training in new methods for using strategic arms, and troops and forces incorporated in the strategic nuclear forces and conventional forces," he said.
"The strategic command post exercises are being conducted taking into account the changes in military and other threats in the world," he said.
Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov is supervising the exercises, which are under the command of the chief of staff, Army General Anatoly Kvashnin.
The training was planned beforehand, and "it is not related to the election campaign, and not for demonstrating our nuclear fist to the world, either," he said.
"The exercises are to train in measures to prevent forceful pressure and aggression against Russia," he said.
