Two rebels killed in Chechnya's Achkhoi-Martan district

KHANKALA. Feb 11 (Interfax-AVN) - Two rebels have been destroyed in Chechnya's Achkhoi-Martan district, the regional headquarters directing anti-guerilla efforts in the North Caucasus said on Wednesday.

"During a search and reconnaissance operation in the Achkhoi- Martan district, federal servicemen found a masked base in the Chozhi-Chu village. While approaching the base, they had to engage rebels," a headquarters spokesman told Interfax-Military News Agency.

Two rebels who were guarding the base were killed in the shootout. The federals seized two Kalashnikov assault rifles, 10 rounds for a portable grenade launcher, eight mines, five hand grenades, about 2,000 cartridges, 11 rounds for an underbarrel grenade launcher, and 100g of plastic explosive on the scene of the engagement.

"The base and ammunition were destroyed by blast. The killed rebels are being identified," the spokesman said.
