MOSCOW. Feb 11 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has said Moscow is ready to come to a compromise with Georgia on all disputed issues.
"We are always willing to meet Georgia halfway on virtually all issues," Putin said opening negotiations with his Georgian counterpart, Mikhail Saakashvili, in Moscow on Wednesday.
This concerns, in particular, "the restructuring of Georgia's debt to Russia and energy supplies," he said.
Putin added that when an accident occurred at the Inguri hydropower plant in Georgia in 2002, Russia, "which itself was experiencing difficulties in the south, limited its needs and increased the power supply to Georgia."
"We acted in the same way last year as well, when there was an accident at a gas pipeline," Putin said.
Russia "took into account the important statements Saakashvili made in Georgia, abroad and at yesterday's meeting with MGIMO (the Moscow State International Relations Institute - Interfax) students," he said.
"This is a positive message aimed at reviving Georgian- Russian relations. We hope that your visit will be useful, and we are glad to see you," Putin said.
