Fifteen Chechen rebels surrender

GROZNY. Feb 11 (Interfax-AVN) - Fifteen members of guerilla units in Chechnya gave themselves up on Wednesday in Grozny at the Federal Security Service's Chechen office.

"The members of illegal armed formations who surrendered mainly come from the Grozny rural, Gudermes and Nozhai-Yurt districts. The rebels turned in assault rifles, a grenade launcher, a large-caliber machine gun and a Fagot antitank rifle," a source with the FSB office told Interfax.

Their surrender was organized by chiefs of district administrations, elders, Muslim leaders and the FSB office, he said.

Since early January, 20 guerillas have surrendered to law enforcement agencies. Last year, 205 rebels turned themselves in, the FSB source said.
