Su-24 plane crashes near Komsomolsk-on-Amur

MOSCOW. Feb 12 (Interfax-AVN) - An SU-24 Fencer plane crashed while making a scheduled flight over the Khurba airfield, ten kilometers from Komsomolsk-on-Amur, at 6:52 a.m. Moscow time (0352 GMT) on Thursday.

"The pilots managed to eject. Neither casualties, nor destruction was reported from the scene of the crash," Alexander Drobyshevsky, spokesman for the Russian Air Force, told Interfax on Thursday morning.

"The crash was due to malfunctions in the wing mechanism which sets the plane in a landing mode. The pilots steered the plane to a safe area and ejected 30 kilometers from the airfield," Drobyshevsky said.

The crew was discovered by a search and rescue team and brought to the airfield, where they underwent a medical examination.

The incident is under investigation, said Drobyshevsky.
