Russian strategic bombers to practice cruise missile launches

MOSCOW. Feb 12 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia's TU-160 Blackjack and TU-95 Bear strategic bombers will launch cruise missiles during the command-post exercises currently being held in the Russian Armed Forces, chief-of-staff of the Russian Air Force Colonel General Boris Cheltsov told Interfax-Military News Agency on Thursday.

"Strategic aviation such as upgraded TU-95 and TU-160 planes will accomplish a series of missions involving cruise missile launches during the command post exercises," Cheltsov said.

In addition, tactical aircraft and fighters will train land assault and interception during the exercises.

"Special emphasis will be laid on interaction between air and air-defense units and other forces," Cheltsov said.

Over 100 central and regional media representatives are working at Air Force airfields on Thursday to cover the Air Force's involvement in the command post exercises, he noted.
