Georgia's new defense minister to meet with western military advisors

TBILISI. Feb 20 (Interfax-AVN) - New Georgian Defense Minister Gela Bezhuashvili is to meet with western military advisors, tasked with reforming Georgia's national defense, on Friday to hear their viewpoints with respect to developing the national armed forces.

"The first meeting with officials of the U.S. Cubic Corporation, who have been developing proposals on reforming the Georgian Defense Ministry for several months now, is to be held today," Bezhuashvili told Interfax-Military News Agency on Friday.

"These officials are retired officers, hired by the U.S. government several months ago. They will tell us what progress they have made so far, as well as their plans for the future," the minister said.

The meeting will also see participation of Patricia Shering, the Georgian Defense Minister's personal advisor for reforms, hired by the British government, Bezhuashvili said.

Mrs. Shering had worked on defense reforms in Riga for three years prior to that he said.

According to the minister, the Georgian Defense Minister is to establish a system, envisioning the maximum efficiency of all advisors.
