58 Russian officers promoted in rank

MOSCOW. Feb 24 (Interfax-AVN) - Fifty-eight officials of the Russian Defense Ministry have been promoted in rank on occasion of Fatherland Defender's Day, a ministry spokesman told Interfax- Military News Agency on Tuesday.

Air Force Commander-in-Chief Vladimir Mikhailov and commander of the Moscow military district Ivan Yefremov were promoted to the rank of army general, the spokesman said. "Four other military leaders became colonel generals," he said.

The other 52 officers were assigned the ranks of major general and lieutenant general.

The spokesman said that the total number of generals in the Armed Forces has not increased. It still amounts to about 1,2000.
