STAVROPOL. Feb 25 (Interfax-AVN) - Border guard units of the North Caucasus Border Guard Directorate detained five citizens of neighboring states on the Russian-Ukrainian and the Russian- Kazakh border on Tuesday.
"A Ukrainian citizen attempted to illegally enter Russia on a ZIL truck but was apprehended by the Gukovo border guard detail of the Kamensk-Shakhtinsky border guard unit. Another Ukrainian citizen, driving home, was detained by the Taganrog detail of the Rostov border guard unit," the directorate's press-service told Interfax-Military News Agency.
In addition to that, the Volga border guard unit apprehended three Kazakh citizens. After corresponding investigations all foreign citizens were extradited in accordance with established procedure.
In 2003 the North Caucasus Border Guard Directorate detained over 1,050 trespassers. A total of 30 people were arrested on suspicion of being members of guerilla units. Border guards also confiscated up to 30 kg of explosives and about 10 kg of drugs, the press-service said.
