STAVROPOL. March 1 (Interfax-AVN) - Servicemen of the North Caucasus regional border guard directorate seized contraband worth RUB1.1m (USD38,560) in January and February 2004, the directorate's press service said on Monday.
"The fines imposed by North Caucasian border guards have totaled about RUB700,000 (USD24,540) this year. The value of exposed contraband has exceeded RUB1.1m," a press service official told Interfax-Military News Agency.
According to him, over 160 persons were denied passage across the directorate's border section last weekend. Several of them were fined for administrative violations.
