ST.PETERSBURG. March 1 (Interfax-AVN) - Military courts sentenced five servicemen of the Northwestern regional border guard directorate in January, a source in the directorate headquarters told Interfax-Military News Agency on Monday.
The courts considered 12 criminal cases in January and sentenced five border guards for various violations, the source said.
According to him, Corporal Tsvetkov of the Sosnovy Bor border guard detachment was sentenced to nine months in the penitentiary battalion for desertion. Corporal Rashov was sentenced to one year in the penitentiary battalion for causing slight damage to a person's health intentionally. Corporal Denisenko of the Pytalovsky detachment and Private Obukhov of the Sosnovy Bor detachment were sentenced to one year in the penitentiary battalion for hazing. Sergeant Razakhanov of the Sovtavalo detachment was given a conditional sentence of three years with a probation period of one year for power abuse.
Courts are trying another criminal cases related to violations in the directorate's units, the source said.
Military prosecutors of the directorate completed investigation of 12 criminal cases and sent 11 of them to courts in January 2004, he went on.
Three servicemen are awaiting punishment for hazing, and three others for power abuse. The rest of the cases concern theft, a car accident, violation of border service rules and resistance to a senior.
