Terrorist attack prevented in Chechnya

KHANKALA. March 2 (Interfax-AVN) - An explosive device was disarmed on a roadside in the village of Zamai-Yurt in Chechnya's Nozhai-Yurt district, the Russian Interior Ministry's provisional press center in the North Caucasus said on Tuesday.

"The device consisted of a 20l canister of aluminium powder, 100g of TNT, a power battery, and a foreign-made radio," a press service official told Interfax-Military News Agency.

Several ammo caches were found in Chechnya on Monday, the official said. In particular, a Mukha grenade launcher, seven rounds for it, 800g of TNT and a landmine were found in the basement of a half-ruined house in Grozny.

The official also said that several suspected criminals were detained in the volatile republic on Monday. A resident of the Belgotoi village in the Shali district was put on the detention ward on suspicion of stealing an assault rifle from a federal serviceman. A rebel born in 1981 surrendered to the police in the town of Argun. "The detainee is making a confession. The investigation continues," the official said.

In addition, four residents of the Chechen capital were detained in the Zavodskoi district of Grozny when they tried to get hold of weapons of the district police department's detail. "One of the attackers was wounded by a policeman who shot his pistol at the person," the official said.
