TBILISI. March 4 (Interfax-AVN) - Georgia is planning to ask Russia for aid in equipping its armed forces, Deputy Defense Minister Nuzgar Kevkhishvili said on Thursday.
"Russia has expressed readiness in providing assistance by training personnel for the Georgian Armed Forces in its military academies, but we are also interested in getting material aid," Kevkhishvili told Interfax-Military News Agency.
"Georgian Defense Minister Gela Bezhuashvili may visit Moscow in the near future to discuss these issues," he said.
According to Kevkhishvili, "military relations between our countries have warmed up considerably" after Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili visited Moscow on February 10-11.
He stressed that Georgia is already receiving substantial material military aid from several Western nations.
"The latest example of such aid is the transfer of military uniform and outfits worth EUR8m from Italy to the Georgian Defense Ministry earlier this week," Kevkhishvili noted.
