STAVROPOL. March 5 (Interfax-AVN) - Servicemen of the North Caucasus Regional Border Guard Directorate, deployed in alpine terrain, continue voting in the presidential elections ahead of schedule, the North Caucasus Regional Border Guard Directorate press-service told Interfax-Military News Agency on Friday.
"The polling process sees participation of units, deployed in difficult-access alpine terrain, which does not have any ground transportation routes, while helicopter flights to such areas are restricted by weather," a press-service official said.
According to him, such checkpoints belong to the Argun border guard unit, protecting the Chechen part of the Russian- Georgian border, as well as those of the Vladikavkaz border guard unit, automobile routes with which have been disrupted by avalanches.
"Special attention is paid to providing security to border guards and their family members on the eve of and during the elections," the press-service official said.
He noted that sailors of the General Armii Matrosov PT boat, attached to the Caspian Maritime Border Guard Unit, patrolling the Caspian Sea, cast their votes on Tuesday.
"The presidential elections will see participation of a total of 27,000 border guards and their family members," the official said.
