Hunt for accomplices of policemen's killers ends in Stavropol

MOSCOW. March 12 (Interfax-AVN) - The search for possible accomplices of the men who shot and killed two police officers in Stavropol Territory on Wednesday has ended.

The policemen were attacked when they tried to stop two cars leaving Mineralnyye Vody. One of the drivers opened fire, killing one officer and wounding another. Police chased the attackers and another policeman was killed. The four attackers themselves were also killed.

According to eyewitnesses, there were only four attackers, not eight as previously reported, and they were all killed, said Federal Security Service official Sergei Ignatchenko.

A special task forced combed the area for suspected accomplices on Friday morning, but no traces were found. Therefore, a decision has been made to end the operation, he said.

A criminal case has been opened on the incident, Ignatchenko said.
