Senior NATO commander to visit Estonia

TALLINN. March 15 (Interfax-AVN) - General James Jones NATO, Supreme Allied Commander Europe, will arrive in Estonia on a two- day visit on Monday.

The press service of the Estonian Defense Ministry's General Staff told Interfax that the agenda of Jones' visit includes meetings with President Arnold Ruutel, Prime Minister Juhan Parts, Defense Minister Margus Hanson, and top Defense Ministry officials.

The aim of Jones' trip is to learn more about Estonia's armed forces and prospects for their development as well as to obtain a better understanding about the activities of the General Staff and Joint Operations Center. He is also expected to visit the Amari air base outside Tallinn.

The NATO commander's visit to Estonia comes a few days following the trip of the alliance's Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer to this country.
