STAVROPOL. March 15 (Interfax-AVN) - Servicemen of the North Caucasus Regional Border Guard Directorate of the Federal Security Service detained several foreign violators last weekend, the directorate's press service told Interfax-Military News Agency Monday.
"A patrol operating in the AoR of the Volzhsky border guard detachment responsible for the border between Russian and Kazakhstan detained in the border zone an Azerbajani citizen, 55, who did not identify himself. The detainee was transferred to the police," the statement reads.
At the Russian-Uzbek border, 10 Uzbek citizens were detained at jumping off the Atyrau-Astrakhan international train at the border. They were fined and excluded from the Russian Federation.
At the Russian-Ukrainian border, a Ukrainian citizen, 28, was fined for an attempt to enter Russia by car beyond the state checkpoint.
Over the past weekend, the North Caucasus Regional Directorate lawfully denied border crossing to over 160 individuals and 50 vehicles. About 40 individuals were subject to administrative liability, the statement reports.
According to the directorate HQ, in 2003 over 30,000 individuals with failed IDs were detected, and 26,500 were denied border crossing. Over 16,000 of them were foreign citizens who might have tried to illegally enter Russia.
The border guards also detained 1,050 border violators; over 30 persons were detained on suspicion of ties wit rebel armed formation. Almost 30kg of explosives and about 10kg of narcotics were seized.
