MOSCOW. March 16 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian Defense Ministry has not been notified by the Georgian side of the fact that airspace over Ajaria, which hosts the 12th Russian military base, has been closed.
"Tbilisi has not provided any information on banning flights to Batumi. However, given the rising tension in Ajaria, flights of Russian military aircraft to the 12th military base have temporarily been limited," a source in the Russian Air Force Staff told Interfax-Military News Agency on Tuesday.
He also said that Russian military aircraft flew to Batumi on a need-to-go basis usually twice a month. "The latest flight to Batumi was carried out last week, and at the present time the exact date of the return flight has not been determined," the source said.
According to him, Russian military aircraft deliver personnel, mail, documents, and food to the 12th military base, deployed in Batumi.
