TBILISI. March 17 (Interfax-AVN) - The Georgian Interior Ministry has closed the main channel used for supplying weapons to Ajaria, Georgian Interior Minister Georgy Baramidze said on Wednesday.
"The channels used for supplying weapons to the Autonomous Republic of Ajaria have been closed. Now that the fleet and the border guard service have closed access to vessels at the Batumi sea port, no weapons are coming into Ajaria," Baramidze told reporters in Poti, where an anti-crisis headquarters on the situation in Ajaria is working.
Baramidze expressed hope that the Turkish authorities will prevent weapons from being supplied to Ajaria by ground transport as well. "At the same time, the problem is that the are more than enough weapons in Ajaria already," he said.
He said that several days ago, before sanctions were imposed on the republic on Tuesday, "a vessel full of weapons arrived in Ajaria." The minister did not specify where the vessel was from and what flag it was flying.
