Moscow willing to work for peace treaty with Japan

MOSCOW. March 17 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has confirmed Moscow's willingness to work for concluding a peace treaty with Japan.

"We have our leaders' agreement on how to proceed in drawing up a peace treaty. In addition, Russia and, I believe, Japan has a desire to proceed towards such a treaty on the basis of agreements between our leaders," Lavrov said at a news conference in Moscow on Wednesday.

Asked about the possibility that Russia could make territorial concessions to Japan, the minister said Russia "has its own constitution which we are being guided by as well."
