TBILISI. March 18 (Interfax-AVN) - Georgian Defense Minister Gela Bezhuashvili said that the state of alert has been called off in the Georgian armed forces, but may be enforced again at any moment.
On Wednesday, Bezhuashvili inspected the 11th Motorized Infantry Brigade in Vaziani outside Tbilisi, where he observed training exercises involving an armored battalion.
"This is scheduled training, which is not connected with tensions over Ajaria," he told journalists.
He announced that an investigation has been launched into whether the 25th Brigade of the Georgian Defense Ministry left its base without permission. "According to our sources, military hardware did not leave the base. But if facts are revealed indicating that the personnel did leave the base, the brigade commanders will be brought to account," he said.
