MOSCOW. March 26 (Interfax-AVN) - Details of the Northwestern District of the Russian Interior Ministry Force apprehended over 200 trespassers, who tried to breach crucial state-owned facilities from the sea, in 2003.
"This figure was given at the meeting of the district military council, chaired by Lieutenant General Alexander Lvov, commander of the Northwestern District," an official of the district headquarters told Interfax-Military News Agency on Friday.
According to him, it was noted that in 2003 naval units of the Northwestern District apprehended 202 trespassers, trying to breach crucial state-owned facilities from the sea, including five divers and 56 vehicles.
A total of 3,319 trespassers were apprehended in 2003, while the economic efficiency of patrols equaled RUB5.7m (USD200,000).
"Last year troops took a number of steps, aimed at increasing security of facilities, and increasing combat readiness of PT boats and diver units. They also received new PT boats, diver and anti-sabotage equipment. The efficiency of patrols in 2003 was the same as that of 2002, while since 1999 it has increased 2.5-fold," the official said.
