Combat training to be mounted in Russian Armed Forces - minister

NIZHNY NOVGOROD. March 26 (Interfax-AVN) - Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov said on Friday that combat training will be mounted in the Russian Armed Forces.

"Combat training in military units will be more active," Ivanov told reporters, while visiting the Gorokhovets training ground in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

"Only through conducting exercises and practical training, we can really understand the situation in the Armed Forces and the training level of officers and enlisted men, only through that we can draw conclusions," the minister noted.

"We have been paying extra attention to combat training lately. Maneuvers are underway in motorized rifle units of the Moscow military district's 22nd joint-arms army. The Air Force and Airborne Force held a joint exercise in the Kostroma region yesterday, and a training voyage is underway in the Black Sea. Combat training events have taken place in air defense forces, too," Ivanov said.

The minister observed actions of the 245th motorized regiment on the Gorokhovets training ground on Friday. The regiment was put on alert on Thursday and mobilized reservists and assumed defense within 24 hours.
