Vladimir region draftees not willing to undergo alternative civil service - defense minister

VLADIMIR. March 26 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov said that none of Vladimir region conscripts were willing to undergo alternative civil service.

"There has not been a single application for the alternative civil service from residents of the Vladimir region so far," the defense minister told reporters, after visiting a regional military commissariat on Friday.

According to Ivanov, the region has excellently been working with conscripts, which is why there are no draftees, wishing to undergo the alternative civil service.

Ivanov noted that the regional recruitment station in Vladimir also drafted volunteers. "Most volunteers wish to serve in the 42nd Motorized Rifle Division, deployed in Chechnya," Ivanov noted. He is on a working visit in Vladimir as part of his trip around the Moscow Military District.
