Russia puts military satellite in orbit

MOSCOW. March 29 (Interfax-AVN) - A Proton-K launch vehicle successfully placed a Cosmos-type satellite into orbit at 1:06 p.m. Moscow time (1006 GMT) on March 27.

The rocket was launched from the Baikonur space center in Kazakhstan at 6:30 a.m. Moscow time (0330 GMT).

"The launch of the rocket and placing the spacecraft into orbit went according to plan," a spokesman for the Russian Space Forces told Interfax.

"Steady telemetric communication has been established with the spacecraft, which was put into orbit for the Defense Ministry's needs. The onboard systems of the spacecraft are operating properly," he said.
