Large-scale exercise starts in Siberian military district

CHITA. March 29 (Interfax-AVN) - A large-scale command post exercise will take place in the Siberian military district from Monday to Sunday, the district's press service told Interfax- Military News Agency.

"The exercise will take place in the Trans-Baikal region. It is supervised by Siberian military district commander Colonel General Nikolai Makarov," chief of the press service Colonel Valery Shcheblanin said.

Over 60 military organizations, staffs and C2 bodies of a close-to-border joint-arms army and several units, combat and technical support units, and military commissioner's offices, as well as operations teams of troops reporting directly to the central command, border guards and other law-enforcement agencies are involved in the exercise, Shcheblanin said.

According to him, large military forces will indeed operate in close-to-combat conditions. Staffs will be redeployed to field command posts at the final stage of the war games. Having made marches by rail and highway, military units will be concentrated at a training ground of the district, where a missile unit will launch a missile. The ground will also host a tactical exercise with live firing which will involve a permanent-readiness district, as well as the airdrop of a paratrooper unit.

"Combat aviation, missile forces and artillery, air defense forces and special-purpose forces will operate in the interests of accomplishing training and combat missions assigned to motorized rifle units. The exercise will take place against a complex tactical background, where non-standard training and combat missions will be practiced," Shcheblanin said.
