Russia showing cutting-edge military hardware at FIDAE 2004 arms show

SANTIAGO, Chile. March 29 (Interfax-AVN) - Almost all Russian exported aircraft, missiles, air defenses, aircraft engines, and onboard electronics will be shown by the Rosoboronexport arms trader at the FIDAE 2004 aerospace show in Chile. This show is the largest in Latin America.

Russian exhibition includes over 300 makes of military and civil hardware. Sukhoi provides extensive information on the SU- 35 multirole fighter, part of Brazil's combat aircraft tender, and on other SU aircraft. MIG presents the highly exportable MIG- 29SMT and new MIG-AT trainer.

New developments of Russian helicopter makers from Moscow, Kazan, Ulan-Ude, and Rostov-on-Don are bound to arouse great interest at the show. The Vympel state-owned design bureau demonstrates a broad range of air-launched missiles.

There are no live Russian makes this time; all aircraft are presented by ads and models.

"This is due not only to money saving, but also to the fact that our aircraft are well known here. Russian aircraft-makers have repeatedly shown the state of the art over Santiago - SU and MIG fighters, and helicopters. For example, at FIDAE 2002 a group of Chilean legislators could attend a demo flight onboard an MI- 17 Hip right from the demo pad," a spokesman for Rosoboronexport said.

FIDAE organized by Chilean Air Force is held at the Cerillos AFB near Santiago every other year. This one will be the sixth for Russian arms exporters.

FIDAE shows are classified into military and civil aviation, space technology, airfield equipment, and aircraft maintenance.

The show will include a number of conferences, the fifth meeting of Latin America military logistics chiefs, and daily demo flights by best regional aerobatics teams.
