MOSCOW. March 29 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia should withdraw its military bases from Akhalkalaki and Batumi in Georgia, head of the Duma International Affairs Committee Konstantin Kosachyov told a Monday news conference at the Interfax main office.
"The bases should be withdrawn because Georgia doesn't want them and it is impermissible for Russia to keep bases on the territory of a sovereign state without its consent," he said.
He added that the withdrawal "is the subject of a purely bilateral understanding between Russia and Georgia and has nothing to do with Russia's commitments to the Istanbul summit (of the OSCE - Interfax)."
