GROZNY. March 29 (Interfax-AVN) - Four wells of the Eldarovo and Staro-Groznenskoye oil fields of the Grozneftegaz Company were set on fire overnight to Monday.
Three wells are burning and oil is gushing out of them, sources in Grozneftegaz told Interfax. The losses amount to 3,000 tonnes of crude oil a day.
Nobody was hurt in the explosion. The police are investigating what they call an act of sabotage.
The company is responsible for putting out the fire.
Grozneftegaz was established under a resolution of the Russian government in November 2000 to revive the Chechen oil and gas industry. Rosneft has a 51% interest in Grozneftegaz, and the Chechen government has a 49% interest.
