ST. PETERSBURG. March 29 (Interfax-AVN) - Baltiysky Zavod has supplied the third Proteus riverine tanker to the customer, Dutch company Rensen Shipbuilding B.V., the press service of the plant told Interfax-Military News Agency Monday.
"The third riverine tanker has been supplied to the customer today. In mid-March 2004 this company signed a contract with the plant on the construction of the sixth tanker," the press service said.
According to the press service, the Proteus was named so after an Olympic god. The vessel was taken out of the workshop on March 26.
The tanker of the latest generation is intended to carry chemicals and petroleum across European rivers. The Proteus is registered at the port of Antwerpen, Belgium. Its length is 109.9m, width 13.5m, draught 5.32m, displacement 3,500t, and hull weight about 1,000t.
The press service said that the contract with the Dutch had enabled the plant to perfect its planning system. "Our experts are planning the progress of an order with a precision of one day," the press service said.
According to the press service, the fourth tanker of the series is under construction, and the fifth under development. The fifth one will be launched in April.
The sixth tanker will be made by the customer's project. The characteristics of that one will be the same as those of the Vancouver - the first vessel of the series. The plant will begin with the sixth tanker in late May to early June, and it will be transferred to the customer in October.
