Siberian Military District exercise begins under heavy snow and cold

CHITA. March 31 (Interfax-AVN) - The active phase of a large army-level command-post exercise (CPX) has begun in the Trans- Baikal region in adverse weather, surprise cold and heavy snowfall, chief of the Siberian Military District press service Colonel Valeri Shcheblanin told Interfax-Military News Agency Wednesday.

"The active phase of the Siberian Military District CPX has begun in adverse tactical and weather environment, the latter for cold and heavy snowfall," he said.

He said that a permanent-readiness motorized rifle regiment was preparing weapons at one of the training fields. "Further they will be in for a tactical exercise with live firing," he said.

According to him, the C2 structures were not only just acting on commands but also established liaison with border guards and other state armed formations. The exercise also involves several military commissioners' offices.

The exercise headed by district commander Colonel General Nikolai Makarov will end on April 4.
