26 mobile teams to clear territory around burning Ukrainian ammo depot from explosive devices

KYIV. May 11 (Interfax-AVN) - The number of mobile mine- clearance teams operating in the area adjacent to the burning 275th ammo storage depot in the Zaporizhzhya region will be increased from 17 to 26, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry's press service reported on Tuesday.

"The Ukrainian Armed Forces keep mounting assets and units which are involved in cleaning the territories affected by the fire at the 275th ammo storage depot. In particular, the number of mobile mine-clearance teams will be increased to 26," the report reads.

According to it, the intensity of ammo blasts on the depot's territory has decreased to one or two per hour. Two fire epicenters still remain in the depot's technical section.

"Mobile mine-clearance teams are focusing their efforts on completing the clearance of the 30-km section of the railway bed, the 50-m straps on land on each side of the tracks, and the international highway," the report reads.

According to the press service, two mine-clearance teams continue working at the depots's administration section and residential area.

"Military sappers have seized over 1,200 explosive devices which are concentrated in a special location and being prepared for scrapping," the report reads.

The territory to be cleared from explosive devices has a radius of 10km and area of 78.5 sq. km.

Over 1,000 servicemen of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and over 150 engineer and special-purpose vehicles are operating in the disaster area.
