Russian Duma committee to hold session in military medical hospital

MOSCOW. May 13 (Interfax-AVN) - The State Duma defense committee will hold an extramural session at the Burdenko mail military clinical hospital on Thursday, the committee's first deputy chairman Alexei Sigutkin told Interfax-Military News Agency.

"The committee session is planning to address problems of legislative backing of military medicine and ways to solve them," Sigutkin said.

The committee continues holding extramural sessions in order to study closely the problems that the Russian Armed Forces are facing, he noted.

"Military medicine is among the most pressing problems at the moment. Military medics provide medical support to both current servicemen and millions of military service and war veterans. This leaves a special imprint on their activity," Sigutkin said.

Colonel General Ivan Chizh, chief of the Armed Forces military medical directorate, will make a report at the session. Chiefs of medical divisions of the Armed Forces and other law- enforcement agencies, as well as chiefs of military hospitals will attend the session.

"It is very important for us to study medical service problems before we start working on the budget. We realize that saving on medical establishments' budget means saving on people's health and sometimes even lives. We must understand and see everything ourselves," the lawmaker stressed.
