Eleven separatist fighters detained in Chechnya

KHANKALA. May 27 (Interfax-AVN) - Eleven rebel fighters have been detained in Chechnya, Colonel Ilya Shabalkin, a spokesman for the regional federal headquarters, told Interfax on Thursday.

Five of them were captured in the settlement of Chernorechye, two in Grozny's Staropromyslovsky district, and four in the Alkhankala village in the Urus-Martan district, he said.

The men are suspected of involvement with Alishan Mashugov's gang, Shabalkin said.

Two other rebels voluntarily surrendered in the Gudermes and Shelkovskaya districts, he said.

Eight rebels were killed in skirmishes on Wednesday, Shabalkin said.
