Japanese corporation discusses cooperation prospects with Saturn Association

RYBINSK, Yaroslavl Region. June 9 (Interfax-AVN) - A Japanese delegation discussed prospects of cooperation between the Saturn Research and Production Association and the Sumitomo Corporation in the course of its visit to Rybinsk, the Saturn press-service told Interfax-Military News Agency on Wednesday.

"The Sumitomo Corporation delegation was headed by Executive Vice-President Kosaburo Morinaka. The visit was aimed at discussing prospects of industrial and scientific cooperation" a press-service official said.

For instance, according to him, the parties concerned discussed cooperation prospects in the sphere of power engineering industry, and production of aircraft gas turbines and snowmobiles.

Morinaka visited the design bureau, the production manager service, the steam-and-gas plant, and a number of other subdivisions of the Saturn Association.

According to the source, the Japanese delegation, which had previously visited various enterprises in Vladivostok, Irkutsk, Tyumen, and Moscow, appreciated the scale, the management level, and technical capabilities of the Saturn Association.

Sumitomo's annual turnover amounts to USD70bn.

Saturn is one of Russia's flagship developers and manufacturers of aircraft and commercial gas turbines. Its main workstreams include developing and manufacturing power plants for combat and civil aircraft, including a power plant for the fifth generation fighter, as well as designing gas turbines and power plants for Gazprom, Unified Energy Systems of Russia, and other customers.
