Russian Armed Forces logistics exercise starts in Volgograd

MOSCOW. June 15 (Interfax-AVN) - Army General Vladimir Isakov, Logistics Chief of the Russian Armed Forces and Deputy Defense Minister, is heading the joint exercise that started Tuesday at units of the North Caucasus Military District, deployed in Volgograd.

"In the morning Army General Vladimir Isakov arrived in Volgograd, where the three-day joint specialized logistics exercise started to train forces to provide logistics and technical support to own troops in wartime," Colonel Sergey Davidenko, a spokesman for the Russian Armed Forces' Logistics Department, told Interfax-Military News Agency.

He added that those participating in the exercise would be chiefs of all logistic support branches of the Russian Armed Forces, arms and services, military districts, combined-arms armies and motorized rifle divisions of permanent readiness, as well as their deputies.

"During the field phase of the exercise, the units will have to fulfil the whole range of tasks relating to logistics and technical support of own troops in division-army command echelons, when in the defense and in counterattack," the spokesman said.

Davidenko said that Railway Force units deployed in the region were also participating.
