Arms cache found near state border in North Caucasus

STAVROPOL. June 16 (Interfax-AVN) - An arms cache has been found in the area controlled by the Argun border guard detachment, the press service of the North Caucasus regional border guard directorate reported on Wednesday.

"A border patrol found a cache near a picket and seized from it an AK-74 assault rifle, nine full magazines, webbing equipment, and a backpack with foodstuffs," a press service official told Interfax-Military News Agency.

According to him, border guards of the directorate found and seized over 20 small-arms pieces and over 7,500 ammo pieces in the areas adjacent to the state border from January to May 2004.

"More than 10 violators detained this year were involved in illegal armed formations," the official added.
